Safe in town: the project kicks off in Matosinhos!

Defence for Children Italia has officially launched the European project "Safe in Town", aimed at helping municipalities develop stronger, child-centered protection policies. The initiative began with a kick-off meeting in Matosinhos, Portugal in May 2025, bringing together local authorities, NGOs, and child protection experts. The project focuses on improving safety for children—especially those in vulnerable situations—by supporting cities in building inclusive, sustainable systems of care. Municipalities will receive tools, guidance, and peer support to create local action plans that reflect children's real needs. The project combines research, training, and practical implementation to help cities identify risks, engage communities, and co-design solutions with young people themselves. By strengthening collaboration between institutions and ensuring children’s voices are heard, "Safe in Town" aims to create safer, more inclusive urban environments for all children. More updates will be available soon via defenceforchildren.it.
