"Schiavitù e redenzione: società e strategie nel Mediterraneo d’età moderna"

On January 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM, the Institute for Studies on the Mediterranean (CNR-ISMed) will host a seminar titled "Schiavitù e redenzione: società e strategie nel Mediterraneo d’età moderna" ("Slavery and Redemption: Society and Strategies in the Early Modern Mediterranean") at Naples headquarters, located at Via Cardinale Guglielmo Sanfelice, 8.

This event is part of the series "Oltre le barriere disciplinari. L’ISMed come laboratorio di ricerca" ("Beyond Disciplinary Barriers: ISMed as a Research Laboratory") and aims to explore the historical phenomenon of slavery and redemption in the Mediterranean, a topic that has gained renewed interest due to contemporary debates on decolonization and movements like Black Lives Matter.

The seminar will feature a presentation by Giovanni Lombardi, a researcher at CNR-ISMed. The session will be introduced and moderated by Daniele Demarco followed by a final discussion. The scientific committee includes Michele Colucci, Gabriella Corona, Antonio De Lorenzo, and Valentina Noviello.

The seminar is open to the public  and can also be attended remotely via the Microsoft Teams platform. For more information and to register, please visit the official event page.
