"Sela for Training and Protection of Heritage" from Jordan Joins Global Efforts to Preserve Cultural Heritage at World Heritage Volunteers Camp 2025 in India

As part of its ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, Sela for Training and Protection of Heritage, the ALF Jordanian member, took part in the World Heritage Volunteers Camp 2025, hosted in Ahmedabad, India, from 12 to 22 August 2025.

The international camp brought together volunteers from around the world to engage in projects aimed at protecting cultural heritage through innovative methods and modern technologies.

Throughout the 10-day program, participants joined a range of activities including guided heritage tours exploring Ahmedabad’s rich history and culture, cultural sessions to raise public awareness on the value of heritage, and hands-on documentation using photogrammetry and manual techniques to safeguard historic landmarks. The camp also placed special focus on intangible heritage by studying and preserving local traditions and customs. Activities concluded with an exhibition showcasing the results of the volunteers’ work.

The initiative set out to achieve key objectives: increasing global awareness of the importance of heritage preservation, involving young people in practical heritage projects, and equipping them with new skills in restoration and conservation. It also emphasized building sustainable cooperation between NGOs, local communities, and heritage institutions, while promoting best practices, gender equality, and recognition of the diverse geography of heritage sites.

A spokesperson from Sela underlined the value of such initiatives, noting that they not only contribute to the protection of cultural heritage but also help foster greater public understanding of its importance for future generations.
