In July 2024 youth worker Nadia Moussed from Cloyne Dioscesan Youth Service Cork facilitated a workshop in the Chester Beatty museum, Dublin. This was in partnership with the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. The Head of Education, Chester Beatty, Jenny Siung co-coordinated the event with the Department of Children and National Participation Office/Comhairle na nÓg (they are child and youth councils in the 31 local authorities in Ireland which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.)
There were 10 members of the Youth Advisory Group who advise the above department and the National Participation Office/Comhairle na nÓg.
The workshop took place in the Chester Beatty on Wednesday 17 July and members of the advisory group worked Nadia Moussed on how to identify key concerns around climate change in advance of the National Forum taking place on the 22 November 2024. All of this will help feed back into the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The ESD to 2030 Strategy provides a framework to steer and support the contribution that education is making and will continue to make towards a sustainable future by 2030.
One of the activities was gallery based using objects to gather young people’s sense of self/identity and how they express themselves.
Plans are underway to work with the Department on the 22 November with a satellite workshop onsite in the Chester Beatty as well as have Irish members of the Irish Anna Lindh network attend this forum.
