Language: English

On;line Event-13, 20, 27 August, (18:30–20:00)- Germany

Recent developments in Syria, including the fall of the Assad regime, have created a new political reality and raised many questions. Thus, Al-Sharq organises a comprehensive seminar, offering a structured introduction to Syria’s modern history and current situation, with a focus on its social, political, and cultural complexity.

We will explore key historical phases from antiquity to the present, the rise of the Assad family and the Baath regime, the 2011 uprising and its consequences, as well as current political developments after the regime change. A special focus will be placed on Syria’s diverse ethnic and religious communities and the situation of the Syrian diaspora, particularly in Germany.

The seminar consists of three online sessions (13, 20, 27 August, 18:30–20:00). It will be led by Hani, who will also share personal insights from his experience living in Damascus during the 2011 uprising.
