The Markaz Review: Review 51

The Markaz Review (TMR) is an online and print platform focused on arts, literature, film, and culture, with an emphasis on freedom of expression and voices from the broader Middle East—spanning the Arab world, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Africa.

Active within the French Anna Lindh network, TMR regularly enriches the cultural dialogue by publishing expert weekly reviews on literature, exhibitions, and documentaries.

In its latest edition, TMR 51 – “MEZZE”, the review highlights the diversity of Mediterranean creativity. It features an excerpt from Algerian writer Samir Kacimi’s latest novel (translated by Rana Asfour), the moving essay Mama’s Kitchen by Lina Mounzer, and profiles of Iraqi artists curated by Hadani Ditmars. The issue also includes:

  • A reflection on home by Amelia Izmanki
  • Art features by returning writers Naima Morelli (on Turkey) and Aomar Boum (on tirailleurs comics)
  • An interview with Joe Sacco on War on Gaza
  • Reviews of Sepideh Gholian’s The Evin Prison Bakers’ Club and the work of Lebanese-Canadian artist Joyce Joumaa

TMR continues to support bold, emerging voices from across the region.
