FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES
The movie "Leawatg," directed by Mohamed Rahal, head of the Culture Club in Tindouf and an active member of the Algerian Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation, has been selected to participate in the official competition of the Italy International Film Festival, which will be held in the city of Barletta in southern Italy from July 18 to 20, 2025.
The movie "Leawatg" tells, in a human dramatic style, an ancient heritage story inspired by the Tindouf region in Algeria, specifically the tale of "Bir Leawatg." The film highlights an important aspect of the region's history and rich cultural heritage, contributing to efforts to preserve collective memory and transmit it to future generations.
This cinematic work comes within the efforts of the Culture Club in Tindouf, an active organization working to promote local arts and culture. The first honorary screening of the film was organized in Tindouf on May 14, 2025, and witnessed a wide attendance from representatives of local authorities, cultural and artistic figures, and a local audience. The film was also honored by the Abdelhamid Mehri House of Culture in Tindouf province, in recognition of its efforts in documenting the cultural heritage of the region. In addition, the film was screened last June 23 in various cinemas across the country as part of the events of the "Algiers, Capital of Hassania Culture" under the high patronage of the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts and in the presence of the Minister, Mr. Zouheir Bellou.
The nomination of "Leawatg" at the Italy International Film Festival represents an important achievement for Algerian cinema in general and for the Tindouf region in particular, as it reflects the commitment of the Tindouf Culture Club to preserving heritage and promoting it at the international level.
