On June 8–10, 2026, Milan will host the Third International Congress “The Value of Water: State of the Art and New Research Perspectives.” The event is organized by the CNR Institute for Mediterranean Studies (CNR-ISMed), in collaboration with the CNR Department of Human and Social Sciences, Cultural Heritage, and the University of Milan, as part of the city’s Green Week programme.
The congress will bring together around 300 Italian and international scholars to discuss the role of water from a multidisciplinary perspective. Sessions will take place at the University of Milan’s historic headquarters, with additional scientific and cultural activities scheduled across the city on June 10.
The conference will address a range of topics related to water management, sustainability, and resource use, involving experts from fields including anthropology, sociology, tourism, geography, ecology, biology, agronomy, history, economics, law, education, literature, and cultural heritage.
The programme includes forty parallel sessions, three roundtables & four plenary lectures delivered by leading international experts. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, the congress aims to advance research and foster discussion on one of the most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges of our time.
