FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES
As part of the project Together We Are Stronger! – Peer Education for Health and Nonviolence", 27 students from three secondary schools in Kumanovo – OSTU Nace Bugjoni", OSU Pero Nakov;, and Gymnasium ;Goce Delchev; – actively participated in the program “Peer Educators for Mental and Emotional Health.” During March and April, the students attended training sessions on the following topics:
the importance of a positive self-image and self-confidence,
empathy and assertiveness,
building self-defense mechanisms,
strengthening mental and emotional health,
coping with stress.
The goal of the program was to support young people 39;s mental health and strengthen their psychosocial and socio-emotional competencies.
The students not only gained knowledge, but also showed readiness to become agents of change in their environments. Through creative work, critical thinking, and sincere conversations, they embraced their role as peer educators with enthusiasm and responsibility. The trained peer educators conducted six workshops for 224 peers from all grades, as well as for teachers and school support staff in their respective schools. Through educational and emotional
presentations and practical exercises, they managed to spark interest, encourage reflection, and open up dialogue on the importance of mental and emotional health among youth. In April and May, a four-day training on Peer Education for Nonviolent Communication and Mediation was held, involving 25 students from DSU-RCOO Kiro Burnaz. The training covered topics such as:
active listening and empathy,
assertive communication and emotion recognition,
nonviolent conflict resolution,
the basics of mediation as a method for resolving disputes,
distinguishing between positions, interests, and needs of parties in conflict,
reaching mutually acceptable agreements.
The participants completed the training with confidence and practical skills. They presented their newly acquired knowledge to 30 of their peers, demonstrating the value of nonviolent communication and mediation as tools for resolving student conflicts through dialogue and understanding.
These young educators are now a valuable resource for their schools and communities. Their dedication and skills offer a hopeful example for promoting peace, empathy, and support among youth. We wish them continued success in their mission, with the hope that their example will inspire many others!
