March 17, The Hague Peace Projects, Paviljoensgracht 20 Den Haag

The Nieuwe Vredesbeweging/The Hague Peace Projects in cooperation with the Arab-West Foundation/Dutch Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation organized a debate about The Hague as City of Peace and Justice

Youth representatives of all local political parties were invited to express their views about the influence international developments worldwide have on the very multicultural city of The Hague where 60% of citizens either was born in another country or has parents who were born in another country. Conflicts worldwide also affect citizens of The Hague and how do we deal with this? Participants discussed the protection of judges and staff of the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court, also against sanctions from the USA. Another item concerned the restrictions to the right to demonstrate in The Hague. Participants felt that demonstrations are a right to vent concerns about international developments.
