Winter Democracy Academy Highlights Youth Participation in Local Democracy

The second edition of the Winter Democracy Academy (WDA) took place from 8 to 15 December 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal, bringing together youth and institutional actors to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level. The event was co-organized by DYPALL Network, in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, the Lisbon Youth Centre, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Portugal, and the Representation of the European Commission in Portugal.

Throughout the week, the WDA offered a diverse programme of activities focused on youth participation, democratic innovation, and local policy-making. It provided a platform for dialogue and cooperation, reinforcing the importance of sustainable democracies rooted in youth engagement.

A key moment of the Academy was the conference “Youth and Democracy, Bridging the Gap”, held on December 10, marking International Human Rights Day. The event brought together participants from across the Academy’s activities, celebrating youth as essential actors in shaping democratic futures.

This initiative exemplifies the role of capacity-building and cross-sectoral collaboration in enhancing youth participation in public life.
