Abstract

DOCC is an Erasmus+ KA2 Partnership (March 2023 – December 2025) tackling declining youth political participation through innovative debate and deliberation methodologies.

Coordination of Debate Clubs:
Comprehensive framework for implementing debate as an effective method of youth work, with guidance on starting and managing debate clubs.

This material is the first one to familiarise youth workers in debate methodology and logistics of debate clubs. As suggested in the table of contents, this material will provide main information and resources for youth workers starting a debate club, or simply using debate lessons in their activities. Some parts of this material aim to introduce specific concepts of debate as a method, such as debate format, construction of lesson and logistic (and how to adopt it) of debate clubs.

Debate lessons are structured in a suggested chronological manner of how to use them. However, if consulted with the part Level of difficulty that can be found in every lesson, the youth worker can decide in which manner she/they/them wants to use them (and in which order).

Content includes:
1. Debate as a method. Debate formats.
2. Debate clubs. Theoretical framework
3. Starting a debate club. Administration of the club
4. Financing debate clubs
5. Guidelines for organising and moderating the presentational debate
6. Tournaments and extracurricular activities
7. Diversity and inclusion in debate clubs. Ethical standards and equity principles
8. Recap of debate methodology. What to bear in mind
