Abstract

The project ‘SouthMed WiA – Towards Greater Gender Equality: Promoting the Role and Image of Women in the Southern Mediterranean Audiovisual Sector’ has recently published the “Guidelines for a balanced gender approach in audiovisual training and education”. The Guidelines for the inclusion of gender issues in audiovisual curricula respond to the main objective of the project and are one its best practices. Indeed, education is fundamental in changing attitudes deeply rooted in societal norms and culture. The main challenge today lies in training and educating the new generations of female filmmakers to present the diversity of women’s lives and in promoting education approaches that, through gender-sensitive perspective, refrain from using negative stereotypes.
