Abstract

This article critically examines the European Union’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum, questioning whether it truly resolves Europe’s migration challenges. While the pact aims to harmonize asylum policies and reduce political tensions among member states, it remains untested and will only take effect in 2026. The agreement reflects a compromise between border security and solidarity but leans toward restrictive measures, with concerns about its impact on human rights and the rights of asylum seekers. Additionally, the EU continues to rely on external migration deals with countries like Tunisia, Egypt, and Albania, raising questions about accountability and long-term effectiveness. The study concludes that while the pact is a step forward, managing public and political expectations is crucial, as migration will remain a contentious issue in the coming years.
