The idea of ​​sustainable development, that ensures well-being, enables economic development respecting the needs of all people and preserves the environment - highlighted is already in 1987 in the UN report Our Common Future. Since then, a number of global events have been organized, starting with the most famous summit meeting of the leaders of the UN member states in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The question is whether development is possible in a harmonious relationship between economy, society and nature or is it a utopia and have we come closer or further away from its realization in 30 years?
Therefore, the member states of the United Nations adopted the program in September 2015 Change the world: the program of sustainable development until 2030 (Agenda 2030) with the desire to end poverty, protect the planet, ensure the protection of human rights and guaranteed progress for all. They are committed to achieve by 2030 17 sustainable development goals that respond to recognized global goals challenges in different areas. The starting point is that these goals are interconnected and interdependent, and that their achievement requires the involvement of all stakeholders. Their implementation should take into account the specific opportunities, conditions and possibilities in different parts of the planet. Priority areas of action in each country should be identified, possible ways of contributing to sustainable development and the roles of individual stakeholder groups should be considered, ways of implementing consultative processes and including vulnerable groups should be considered, so that no one is left behind. Inter-sectoral coordination is needed at all levels in the design and implementation of strategies and monitoring of the achievement of the goals. Immediately after the adoption of the SDGs, ODRAZ prepared this brief overview in order to inform citizens and interested stakeholders in Croatia about the program.
