Overview

The ALF Euro-Mediterranean Young Professionals Programme is a full-time professional experience designed for young professionals at the beginning of their careers who are eager to expand their intercultural expertise through dedicated work. The Programme aims to empower talented graduates under the age of 30 from the 43 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region by providing them with firsthand professional experience in intercultural dialogue. Professionals also benefit by contributing to the ALF’s mission to foster youth inclusion through empowerment and engagement, enhancing their competitiveness in the job market. 

What the Programme Offers

Successful applicants will begin their professional journey of up to 11 months at the ALF Secretariat in Alexandria, Egypt. During this time, they will:

  • Gain invaluable work experience and insights from the daily operations of the ALF Secretariat, understanding practical objectives and goals of intercultural and civil society dialogue
  • Work in a vibrant, multicultural, and multilingual setting, which will prepare them for the job market, equipping them with practical skills for navigating the global intercultural dynamic
  • Experience professional growth by working in a prestigious intergovernmental Institution
  • Build a network with like-minded professionals and experts in the field of intercultural dialogue, enriching both their personal and professional life

Young professionals’ fields

The ALF Euro-Mediterranean Young Professionals Programme 2025-2026 offers young professionals the opportunity to gain a year of professional experience in one of the following four fields:

Public Policies
The purpose is to play a key supporting role in managing the editorial lifecycle across all the ALF publication lines. This includes maintaining regular communication with authors and peer reviewers; resolving daily publishing workflow issues to ensure smooth operations, in collaboration with the relevant ALF Secretariat Units; and carrying out copyediting and proofreading tasks to uphold high editorial standards, while maintaining and updating internal tracking systems and administrative records.
 
Civil Society
The aim is to contribute to the work of the Civil Society Unit, by assisting in the review and track of the activities of the ALF’s National Civil Society Networks (which has 4.500 members in 43 countries) and their implementation schedules, compiling related documentation, monitoring timelines and deliverables in compliance with contractual obligations, organising online coordination meetings, supporting data collection and assisting with any ad-hoc tasks related to intercultural dialogue and civil society.
 
Corporate Communication
The goal is to contribute to the visibility and impact of the ALF’s work by supporting the development of creative and engaging content across different platforms. This includes assisting in the production of materials, supporting the implementation of outreach campaigns and contributing to the coordination of online communication activities. The role also involves contributing to the promotion of the Intercultural Resource Centre in accessible and engaging formats.
 
Administration, Finance and Fundraising
The objective is facilitate efficient workflow and interactions both internally (among ALF teams) and externally (with various stakeholders), through providing support to the Administration and Finance Unit in the daily procedural tasks and preparatory work related to the different Programmes implemented by the ALF and future fundraising proposals, including tasks of accountancy, procurements, contracts and logistics in close coordination with the other Units of the ALF and interaction with contractors or partners
Young professionals will be asked to choose two of the fields detailed above in order of preference. They will ultimately be assigned to work preferentially in one of their chosen fields. The ALF Secretariat reserves the right to assign the young professional to other fields accordingly with the profile of candidates or supervened circumstances and/or specific needs during the duration of the Programme.

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria that will be taken into account in the selection process are the following:

  • Nationality: Applicants must be nationals of one of the 43 UFM countries
  • Age: Applicants must be under 30 at the foreseen start date of the contract (1 October 2025)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the chosen fields
  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to the chosen fields × Knowledge of English (Excellent written and oral communication skills, at least C1 level)
  • Proven background in the chosen fields

Note: Selected young professionals will be assigned to the different fields according to their areas of study, previous experience and motivation, according to the specific needs of the ALF Secretariat, regardless the modalities chosen as first or second option. There is also the possibility to rotate or be assigned to other field/s subject to ALF Secretariat necessities.
